If you’re struggling to build or stick to a morning routine then this is for you. A healthy morning routine can help you start your day positively and productively. In other words, it can leave you energized and empowered. So, if you’re already putting down your goals for 2020 and one of then them is having healthy habits, then here are six ways to build a positive ritual to start your day:

Six healthy morning habits

1. Stretch

As easy as this sounds, it’s important. You see, your muscles lose tone and fluid tends to pool along your back when you sleep. When you stretch, you massage fluid gently back into the normal position. So, spend 2 minutes stretching as soon as you get out of bed.

2. Drink water

I find it very difficult to drink water in the morning. But, I know I need to hydrate myself because it helps promote a sustained flow of blood to my skin and releases toxins from my system. It also helps you with moving the lower bowels for regularity in the mornings. To make the process easy, I take a couple of gulps of water instead of torturing yourself by drinking a glass. Guess what, gulping helps me take 2-3 glasses. give it a try.

3. Do a short exercise

You probably saw this one coming, didn’t you? Well, you’ve to shake things up a little. Don’t be hard on yourself if you can’t go to the gym. All you need to feel energized and healthier is 10 minutes of exercise. So, look up a quick exercise routine and get busy.

4. Schedule Your Day

Take five minutes to settle down after your workout and then sit comfortably to ponder on the day ahead. The big question? What do you want to achieve today? Without a schedule, you can easily go through the day without achieving anything. So, make a list of what you want to accomplish on the day and decide where your priorities lie. Rate the importance of each task: 1 (important and urgent), 2 (important, but not urgent), 3 (not important, but urgent), or 4 (not important, not urgent).

5. Fuel up

If your routine is an alarm, get kids ready, a quick shower and off to work, then that’s why you’re always tired. You hardly pack you up and start your day without making time to eat something healthy. However, a healthy breakfast is a very important part of a healthy morning routine.

Even if you’re not a breakfast eater, try to spend 10 minutes indulging in a delicious and nutritious breakfast. You want something that has enough protein to hold you up until lunchtime. Go for like yogurt with fruit, oatmeal, toast with nut butter and a banana or a smoothie with protein powder.

6. Stay away from your phone

If you keep your phone near you in the morning, you probably start your morning by watching youtube videos or catching up on other people’s social media lives. Try leaving your phone on aeroplane mode until you’re out the door. You can also just put it way – out of sight, out of mind – so it won’t interfere with your precious morning time.

There you have it. Here’s to healthy mornings!
